[BUG] Unable to sign in on iPad Pro without a physical keyboard

Current Behavior

Having been made aware of this particular app this morning, I decided to install it on my iPhone and iPad Pro to test it against the app I was currently using. The sign-in on the iPhone went without a hitch. However, on the iPad Pro I could not get past the sign-in page due to the fact that I could not get an on-screen keyboard to appear so I could type in the address. The only way I could get past the sign-in dialog was to hook up a physical keyboard.

Once past the sigin-in process the on-screen keyboard worked just fine again.

Expected Behavior

Expected to be able to use the on-screen keyboard to be able to sign in.

Steps To Reproduce

  1. Install the app fresh on an iPad (Pro?)
  2. Attempt to sign in to an existing account
  3. Hopefully (if this is a common issue) fail to get an on-screen keyboard

Environment

- Device: iPad Pro (11-inch) (3rd generation)
- OS: iPadOS 15.4.1
- Version: v1.3.1
- Build: 113

Anything else?

The active keyboard, both on my iPhone (where this worked fine) and iPad (where the problem happened) is Microsoft SwiftKey.

I was able to copy and paste into each field as a workaround. But no amount of orientation change or trying to trigger focus and blur on the fields brought the keyboard up. iPad Pro 10.5 inch, iPad OS version 15.4.1 (19E258). Mastodon version v1.3.1 (113). One bit of flavor: I was logging into a server which does not appear as an autocomplete option unless I enter the full server name.

Could you reboot the iPad then try again? I cannot reproduce this issue on my iPad. Same device and same OS version.

That's looks like not an application issue. The sign in webpage is display via Apple AuthenticationServices.framework. I cannot access it until the OAuth complete callback. 🤔

image after rebooting and explicitly logging out, my login information is stored. Clicking "Cancel" on using login information stops me from logging in. I was able to clear that out by going to the Mastodon instance website and logging out. Once I did that, retrying I get this login screen. image

Can confirm, after logging out and rebooting and ensuring I got back into a state where the login dialog appeared... keyboard appeared fine for me. Sorry for the possibly-bogus report; might be FAQable perhaps if others do run into it?

I just an into the same problem, but I also had this issue with a different app once, so it is probably an iOS bug. iPad Air 2022 iPadOS 15.6.1 Mastodon for iOS 1.4.5 (144)

Copy-Paste is a workaround.

I had this same issue, but reboot solved it. iPad Air 5th gen, iPadOS 15.7.1 Mastodon 1.4.8
