Toot "open in browser" doesn't work for posts on mastodon.social specifically

Being on a single-user instance I frequently use the three dots -> Open In Browser function to see full replies for a post that I only saw via a boost, as my server doesn't have the full context.

Expected behaviour: this consistently opens my web browser app to the selected post

Actual behaviour: If the post is hosted on mastodon.social selecting this menu item opens the post within this app (which I'm already in), again only showing the replies that my server is aware of. For any other server my external web browser app opens as expected.
