On Linux based servers you can clip through displacements

Open Ninja-Cookie opened this issue 5 years ago • 4 comments

IMPORTANT NOTE: This was tested on a Windows 10 OS, I do not have access to any version of Linux I could test this on personally. I also do not use this Team Fortress build provided here for personal overly-protective security reasons, this is purely information based on the current Steam Version of Team Fortress 2, so I am unable to answer or confirm some things.

Description

On Linux based servers, such as Team Fortress 2 Casual Servers, you can clip inside displacements at the center of any center point on the displacement, if it sticks out enough and are able to crouch underneath it, allowing you to uncrouch so the game attempts to stand while under it.

Checklist

  • [x] None of the open or closed issues document this problem. (As far as I could tell)
  • [x] This is a bug, not a new idea.
  • [x] This is objectively a bug, and not something that people commonly disagree on.
  • [x] This bug is in the code of the game, not in the textures, sounds, or other resources.
  • [x] This issue occurs on the latest vanilla TF2 update.
  • [ ] This issue is listed on the Source 1 official bugtracker.
  • [x] This issue occurs with DirectX level 100. ~~This issue occurs on the latest Team Comtress release, or the master branch.~~ (Cannot confirm)
  • [x] This issue occurs when using no custom content. ~~This issue occurs when using start_tf2.bat (or start_server.bat) with no custom launch options.~~ (Cannot confirm)
  • [x] This issue occurs when using a listen server (using the map command ingame).
  • [x] This issue occurs when using a dedicated server.
  • [ ] This bug is in the internal procedures or tooling (e.g. the build process).

Reproduction

  1. Be on a server running a Linux build.
  2. Have a displacement of Power 2 or higher and be at a center point in the displacement that is out enough and high enough that you can just crouch under it.
  3. Crouch under the center point, while holding against the wall, uncrouch and continue to push against it. Can sometimes not work immediately.

Setup Details

  • Server or client: Server and Client
  • Operating system: Any version of TF2 can do this, however the server being played on must be running from a Linux build. ~~Team Comtress version:~~ ~~Custom content:~~ ~~Launch options:~~ ~~Graphics driver:~~ ~~DirectX level:~~

Here is a map other than Dustbowl for testing, in theory all areas marked should be broken on Linux server builds but be unaffected on windows unless playing on a Linux server. testmap.zip

Best to actually try in team comtress 2 please. and at least in linux tf2 for that matter to double check. do try whenever you can. you should have unchecked what you can't confirm

It still is a confirmed bug, I would apricate if others could test it as I have no access to that sort of thing. Any updates or inaccuracies can be updated. I also did not leave them unchecked as it would specify too heavily that it is not of concern when I do not know. Thank you for the input however.

i was able to reproduce this with the latest tf2 linux srcds and client i got this to happen in both a dedicated server and a listen server cp_dustbowl0000 cp_dustbowl0001

are you sure that this bug is exclusive to linux though? can someone try to reproduce on windows?

I can confirm this does not work on Windows (server/local). Tested on Windows for quite a while but nothing, worked first try on Linux.
