Please try uninstalling any "App Runtime" or "App Sdk" entry on Windows Settings and then reinstall WingetUI

@marticliment unfortunately that did not help.

How are you installing WingetUI?

marticliment avatar Mar 15 '24 21:03 marticliment

I took the binary from GitHub Releases and installed it systemwide. Tried user Install as well, which didn't change it. SInce user Install did not work because of an ö in my c:/users/<username> I wend ahead and renamed it.

Please reinstall WingetUI 2.2.0 and disable updates. I will try to fix this as soon as I can

thank you. If a new release comes out, I am happy to retest it.

I confirm the problem. On Windows logon WingetUI v.2.2.0 updated itself. When finished, I tried to start the new version, but it did not respond. Reboot didn’t help.

I noticed the same error:

Event ID: 1168
EventData: Windows App Runtime
ERROR 0x80070490: Bootstrapper initialization failed while looking for version 1.5 (MSIX package version >= 5001.70.1338.0)

Edit: Yesterday morning, the old WingetUI version 2.2.0 updated automatically to v.3.0.0 and run without problems. Today I had to restore the system using yesterday’s image, and this time the old version (2.2.0) updated to v.3.0.1 and the problem occurred.

Edit-2: Further info: I uninstalled the not working WingetUI v3.0.1 and I downloaded and installed v.2.2.0 which, to my surprise, could not start either, returning exactly the same error as the new version (Event ID: 1168)

In a last attempt, I deleted the installation folder C:\Program Files\WingetUI and replaced it with the same folder from a two days old image, containing the old working version of WingetUI v2.2.0. That worked!

First thing I did right after was to disable “Update WingetUII automatically” from "General preference" settings.

@marticliment @Pitt-The Version 3.0.1 fixes the issue for me. Thanks for the quick response

For me it was different. I installed 3.0.1 first time at this pc and wingetui not running at all. I've got also the event id 1168 Windows App Runtime ERROR 0x80070490: Bootstrapper initialization failed while looking for version 1.5 (MSIX package version >= 5001.70.1338.0)

After uninstall and install 2.2 wingetui is running. But after autoupdate to 3.0.1 same error again.

This is also happening to me on a fresh install of Windows 11. It works on version 2.2.0 but when it updates or I update it to 3.0.1, it doesn't open.
