Describe the improvement

I would like to be able to manually request that WingetUI check for available updates.

Ideally there would be both an option on the system tray right-click menu, and a prominent button on the "Software Updates" tab of the main GUI window.

It's possible that the refresh icon next to the search box in the upper-right corner of the main GUI window does this, but:

  • it has no tooltip explaining its function
  • it's tiny and off in a corner of the window
  • its location next to the search box suggests it has something to do with searching/filtering of the list

Describe how this improvement could help users.

Being able to manually trigger update checks seems like a must-have feature for a package management user interface.

It also took me a while to find this button.

How about something like this?

@marticliment

This issue should not have been closed. As far as I can tell, this is about updating packages, not UniGetUI itself.

Also, what do you think of my suggestion above?

Sorry, my bad.

I am not sure about it, the inconsistency of the labels is used to explain less clear buttons Also, the refresh button is kept there for consistency with the rest of the UI

No worries. 🙂

the inconsistency of the labels is used to explain less clear buttons

That is very subjective – does everyone know what the hash or mouse pointer buttons do?

I think it would be more consistent if they either all had a label, or none of them did. Ideally, you could right click the toolbar and toggle all labels on or off.

See also #2988.

As mentioned by the OP:

  • it has no tooltip explaining its function
  • it's tiny and off in a corner of the window
  • its location next to the search box suggests it has something to do with searching/filtering of the list

Yes, fair enough. I will see what I can do, because it is a priority that all the icons show in the screen...

Maybe you could add a setting to allow the user to choose which icons they want to have labels?

That's too specific, the usage won't justify the implementation/complexity.

A giant "Search for packages" box has been added to the middle of the main pane for the Discover Packages tab. It seems like a manual "Check for updates" button would a better corresponding feature in the Software Updates Panel than the "Hooray! No updates were found." label.
