Open with → All applications can't open/search within folders

When I invoke the Open with action to open a file and then choose All applications, I can't then choose an application from a subfolder, when I select a folder, the whole dialog just closes instead of showing apps within that folder (also, might be better to just allow a recursive search, will be easier to find an app via search than via navigating the folders)
