A proposal for a new icon
The current new icon is so ugly and awful... I can hardly think it's bearable. A suggestion: make the black eye solid again, and make a smaller grey barcode inside the eye. It will certainly be more acceptable than the current one.
Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder 😉
I liked the previous icon better too, but since Google didn't tell me what exactly was wrong with it, I played it safe and avoided the typical impression of an eye.
Anyway, it's not set in stone and can always be improved. I will try your suggestion and see if I can come up with something better.
I think it is fine, too! And otherwise, one can download a custom icon-pack anyway to override the icon (might require you changing your launcher-app as well though, so maybe not very convenient).
While beauty is indeed an individual thing, as a designer I can say it's a very well thought out and designed logo/app icon and I wouldn't recommend changing it without a better reason to do so.
