Sharing a barcode scanning history as a file via an email app does not behave as expected
Thanks for this app - the engine is fast and seems quite reliable, and the UI is easy to use. Great work!
I'm attempting to use this app to bulk scan a few stacks of old hardware I have laying around. I was previously using the ZXing Barcode Scanner app, but since it's no longer maintained the changes in Android 11 have well and truly broken its ability to operate in a streamlined manner.
When I have scanned a bunch of items, and press the share button, I am taken to the screen in order to select an app. I've tried a few but they all result in the same behavior;
Data is shared, but it's pasted into a new email, not attached as a file. Additionally, the pasted contents when exported seem to get mangled somehow which has made it difficult to process them even in Excel, let alone something more limited.
Right now my workaround is share, save the file to something like Owncloud (only way to get it to save as an actual usable file) then open email app and email that file, then I still need to process it in Excel to remove the headers, before it can be easily imported into the database program I'm using. This is a lot of extra steps compared to the previous method of scan--Attach to email--Send--import.
The destination application is Filemaker, but it's not something I have a choice about using.
Is there any possibility of adding the kind of flexibility needed to save just the barcode data, with no headers, as a CSV and easily attach to an email?
Well, you could use the scanner in bulk mode (just check the menu item "Scan continuously" from the overflow menu, the three dots, in the top right) and then export the complete history with the import/export icon at the top right in the history screen.
The app can export the history as a file in CSV (with commas or semicolons) or JSON format or as a SQLite database. You can easily import the CSV file into Excel or something.
Yes, this is the issue, the CSV file is not created when sharing from the bulk mode scan.
It's added or attached as a paste into the email body, not as a file.
The only way I've been able to get a file generated is by sharing to the Owncloud app.
Running LineageOS 18.1, which might be the issue if there are any settings you know of which may interfere with the app's ability to attach files? Tried with k9mail and a couple of other email apps and they all have the same issue.
Thanks for responding!
