turns out CSGO now requires export `LD_PRELOAD=:/home/mark/.steam/debian-installation/ubuntu12_32/gameoverlayrenderer.so:/home/mark/.steam/debian-installation/ubuntu12_64/gameoverlayrenderer.so` with that env var it starts fine.
