does not display if Custom Index 1.8 is active

I am running elgg 1.8.8 and mobile 2.0 beta and if the custom index 1.8 plugin is active, i get a completely blank home page on mobile, without the ability to sign in. Turning off the custom index plugin and mobile works just fine.
