Password Sync with Browser internal Password Manager

Open uwedisch opened this issue 4 years ago • 2 comments

Current Status With browser extension passwords must be provided into separate dialog and already stored passwords with browser are not synchronized.

Feature Description

  1. Need password synchronization like Chrome and Firefox has, but storage within Nextcloud.
  2. User should not use extra dialog to provide credentials, user should use browser implemented means to provide credentials.
  3. Already stored passwords within browser should be synchronized during first connetion to Nextcloud.
  4. Once setup is done from admin user should not know/recognize that passwords are synchronized. User should work in the same way as without password management.

Additional context n.a.

I would love to implement this feature, since it would allow me to use the browser logic for detecting / inserting passwords instead of implementing it on my own. But this requires a browser api which did exist in the old Firefox, but not in Quantum/WebExtension. The ticket to implement this has yet to be merged. I'm not aware of any attempts to bring this functionality to chrome.

Thank you. I will wait for an update and meanwhile I will stay with my own Firefox Sync Server for some more years.
