Yeah this isn't an open source tool. This is a Linux version of the tool recommended on the Windows and Mac pages. I agree it would be a good idea...
I'm not sure what the advantage is exactly, but the guide suggests there is some advantage over third party/OS tools.

That's a good point. I guess a prompt asking the user if they want to open it or not would work.

It seems to calculate the hash of the RomFS without actually comparing it with the hash in the header. It didn't notice that the hash in the header is corrupted...
