Mirror image shortcut

Would you think of adding a mirror option so that when you see a photo which is left to right backwards (as happens with scans of slides)hitting a key would both show it correctly AND save it back to the file? Also, would it be possible to add a specific image as the background when a photo does not fill the screen?
