CNC Drilling Machine

Dear all, May I ask you which CNC drilling machine do you recommend to use your Tsugite software. I am checking on my side but probably I need an help to get the right one to be able to drill the extremities of long pieces of wood.

thanks again for your attention

Cheers Mauro

Hi Mauro,

Thank you for trying out Tsugite!

The CNC-machine vertical material insertion is a general problem since most (all?) commercial CNC machines are designed to cut plate material. So, they tend to have a long reach in XY, but little flexibility in the Z-axis in terms of reachability and space to input materials.

That being said, as mentioned in the paper, I used a machine from Pro Spec Tools. It has a relatively long Z-axis reach, so I could cut up to 20 cm long vertically positioned wood bars.

To cut longer pieces, a collaborator used the handibot with a jig as mentioned in this post (in Japanese): https://digifab.or.jp/archives/2738

The handibot has since been discontinued from ShopBot. Another of their machines though, ShopBot Desktop, has an option of a removable aluminum deck, which would make it possible to remove the "floor" and insert material vertically. That's what I would try if I were you.

Let us know how it goes!
