Page numbers on reference

I'm using PDF documents, when i get a result, there's not page number, just a link to the pdf document. This is kind of difficult to use because it doesn't show where in the pdf if found that data. Of course the user can use CTRL+F, but a page number would be great. Is there a better way. Do docx or markup files produce a better linking system?
