ruby-mapnik local binary packaging

Would it be possible to package the mapnik binaries with the ruby-mapnik gem as you are doing with node-mapnik?

theoretically a similar approach could be adapted yes. Although I am heavily invested in node-mapnik so I won’t personally have any time available for ruby.
