Isometric Map built from 2D tileset

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

It would be useful if the editor would support building isometric maps from 2D tilesets by doing isometric projection on the fly.

Benefits:

  • Editor can now be use in 2D and 3D isometric engines
  • 2D tileset arrangement greatly improves texture space utilization by tightly packing tiles (there is no wasted space like in isometric tiles)

Describe the solution you'd like.

The category for tile projection could be specified on a tileset level:

  • Ground
  • Wall

Tile level ?

  • Draw offset should be specified on the tile level to avoid duplicating tile.

Bonus features:

  • Specify tile texture filtering: nearest, linear
  • Allow to specify any wall Y rotation to increase the degree of freedom and expression

Describe alternatives you've considered.

Hmm, apart from that "wall" feature, I don't see this having any benefit over just editing your map as an orthogonal map in Tiled and rendering it with the desired projection in your engine.

Regarding the walls, it seems to me you'd likely want to be able to place multiple walls within the same cell as well. They're really more like projected tile objects, right? So in this orientation we could use the existing object "rotation" property, as long as there's only one rotation axis.

I'll note that I won't personally have time to implement this unless somebody would directly sponsor the work. I can answer any questions in case you'd like to have a go at adding this yourself, though!
