Is 0.8.0 / v4 API backwards compatible?

Our app originally used MBKMapKit 0.5.0 / v3 API to download and display an offline map. We updated to 0.8.0 / v4 API and now previously downloaded map tiles will not display. An empty grid is displayed instead.

Is 0.8.0 / v4 API not backwards compatible with offline-maps downloaded with 0.5.0 / v3 API?

Is anyone still looking at these issues, or are they being ignored because MBXMapKit is deprecated?
