Introduction
Our team is launching a mapping initiative to enhance the quality of road data in Thailand and Vietnam. Our goals include:
- Correcting and improving road names for accuracy.
- Fixing geometry issues.
- Creating new roads based on osm imagery
Types of Activity
We focus on the following features:
- Adding missing roads
- Changing road connectivity/geometry
- Adding and improving street names
- Improving other objects affecting road geometry
Workflow
-
Maproulette: We have some database of features that potentially have problems (dragged node, spam name & etc.), we plan to upload these features to Maproulette and fix them there.
-
Visual Assessment: We will visually inspect the road data coverage, adding any missing roads, based on OSM imagery.

Adding and improving street names
Note that alley names in large Vietnamese cities are different than in most countries. For example, a typical alley name in Ho Chi Minh City looks like “Hẻm 1716/46/24 Huỳnh Tấn Phát”. The sign only says “Hẻm 1716/46/24”, but the full name is considered important for addressing and navigation.
