Organized Editing Activities in the UK

Open vladaboitsik opened this issue 4 years ago • 5 comments

Background

As part of on-going work to improve the quality of OpenStreetMap data, our team also fix mapping mistakes or improve it quality due to our user’s feedback in the UK.There's a link to our OSM Wiki page.

Contact Person

We welcome feedback, suggestions, and insights from local mappers. If you have questions about this work, or a specific edit by our team, please reach out to Vlada at [email protected] or post a comment in a changeset.

A unique hashtag

We will use the hashtag #mbx_uk_editing

Goal of the activity

The main goal is to improve the quality of OSM data and our driver’s experience.

Timeframe

This is an ongoing project.

Any non-standard tools and data sources used, and their usage conditions

We used some internal tools for processing driver’s feedback. And for OSM edits we use only OSM iD and ground truth sources (Bing, Esri, Maxar satellite imagery and street level sources such as Mapilary ) + our user’s feedback. @legain @Andygol @shvrm @abrohood

Hi @vladaboitsik, thanks for starting this thread and creating a wiki page. Are you able to expand a bit more on the sort of mapping you will be doing please? It sounds like the focus is on roads and associated access restrictions (turn restrictions, etc). Is that right?

Any additional info you can share on what "internal tools for processing driver's feedback", or indeed what "driver's feedback" is, would be much appreciated.

In other news, OSM UK (osmuk.org) will shortly be launching a tile layer to help us all properly align area imagery and OSM objects. Is this of value to Mapbox? And more broadly, perhaps you could become an OSM UK corporate member - this costs just £500 and helps us to support mappers in the UK.

Hi, @RobJN! Thank you for your comment. You are right, our focus is improving road data, specifically, geometry, tagging and, turn-restrictions.

Mapbox customers using our navigation SDK can submit user feedback via our Nav-Feedback SDK (see our documentation). These reports are reviewed by our team and verified with other sources. Once we determine that the feedback is valid, we edit the data in OpenStreetMap.

Thanks for the information connected with corporate membership, we will discuss the request internally and send you an update next year.
