Show "Stay on" instead of distant maneuver in turn banner
If the next maneuver is > 3-5 miles away, don't display the next maneuver as it can be confusing. Instead, display a continue straight arrow with the current street/highway name e.g. Stay on I-80 East
.

Note that this would differ from the behavior of both Apple Maps and Google Maps, which do display the upcoming maneuver no matter how far away.
Would we continue to show the distance to that next maneuver all the while? Should we worry that a user might misinterpret a straight arrow and “10 mi” to mean “in 10 miles, go straight”?
I'm 👎 on hiding the distance if the maneuver is far out. The user should always know the distance to the maneuver even if it's far away.
Noting that we'd never hide the distance, but rather deprioritize the upcoming maneuver as not currently actionable.

Would we still “display a continue straight arrow with the current street/highway name”, as suggested in the original post? Are there examples of applications in the wild that have this behavior? Or would we continue to show an accurate maneuver, just less prominently, as Google Maps does?
Screenshots corroborating how our instructions on long stretches right now are confusing.

@lxbarth, I think those screenshots make a compelling case for making the distance more prominent when the maneuver is far away. Recent builds have made the distance far less prominent than the road name.
