Switch to ESM entry point, modernize dependencies for v4

Switch the package to type: module, exposing an ESM-only entry point for Node.
Update TypeScript typings to annotate the module rather than the UMD bundle.
Drop transpilation and minification of the legacy UMD bundle (JSDelivr / Skypack handle this on their own).
Drop nyc in favor of c8 for better test coverage analysis.
To be releases as semver-major (v4.0.0).

@DenisCarriere would you mind taking a look at this? I'm not well versed in TS nuances.
