Add a "title" field

Open autonum opened this issue 4 years ago • 4 comments

Hello.

Here are a few suggestions that might improve actual use and add useful functions :

  • [ ] Add specific field for note title. Maybe in the upper window toolbar or in a bottom bar.
  • Allow resizing the window from the bottom right corner.
  • [ ] [In case «note title» is implemented] Add button to "fold" and "unfold" the note and leave only tool bar with the note's title – on it or on a bottom bar if not enough space. The title could be the button area.

And a couple of bugs :

  • [x] In the window menu from a note's toolbar, «custom color» and «settings» won't open unless clicked twice.
  • Can't type some special characters unless pasted: «É», «À», etc' (writes «é», «à», etc').

Anyway, great extension. I use it more intensively and extensively than a mere note app. It allows me to simplify and clarify the way I manage a desktop. Thanks for the work.

Can't type some special characters unless pasted: «É», «À», etc' (writes «é», «à», etc').

this one is a GNOME Shell issue. I don't remember how it was handled on 3.30 but on 3.34 the É is just converted to é, which is absurd but i'm not the one in charge of GNOME Shell generic text fields

Allow resizing the window from the bottom right corner.

Too complex, notice that the notion of window doesn't even exist here: to move or resize the note, i'm just tracking the coordinates of a click (press/release) on a button and i do a substraction

In the menu from a note's header, «custom color» and «settings» won't open unless clicked twice.

ah yes, i assumed it was my touchpad but it looks like an actual bug, i'll fix that

Add specific field for note title. Maybe in the upper window toolbar or in a bottom bar.

That's a complex issue because i've no idea how to design that while keeping the notes resizable enough: i tried in the past, but the result is either a huge header with no area left to grab the note, or a note weirdly splitted in 2 parts, which looks stupid when you have no interest in adding titles. I'll maybe try something else later

Add button to "fold" and "unfold" the note and leave only the header

Meanwhile notice that you can right-click on the grab area to hide the content

I'll not fix everyhting but thanks for the report and suggestions!

Hello. Ok; thanks. Nothing critical, anyway.

A few more suggestion – unless 3.36 compatibility issues won't allow it :

— Align text on top of the note. — Concerning the «note title» issue : how about a title zone at the bottom of the note – that would remain visible when «folding» the note (in case «folding» is implemented) – and an option in the settings to make this field visible or not (maximal hypothesis : a «default» option for new notes in the general settings – or just the present duplicate policy – and then a per-note option).

And two questions : — What is the purpose of hiding the text on right-click? — Is the incompatibility issue with «icons on the desktop» susceptible to be solved?

Thanks again.

What is the purpose of hiding the text on right-click?

the sames as folding:

  • people seeing my laptop shouldn't be able read everything (mail addresses, personal things to do, etc.)
  • ability to make huge notes smaller

Is the incompatibility issue with «icons on the desktop» susceptible to be solved?

No (i don't even use that, and i never will, desktop icons are a feature completely alien to GNOME Shell)

Concerning the «note title» issue

For that one, I found what to do to put it in the header, it will not be very intuitive to edit but it'll work
