Events cycle

I'm trying to load around 100 isotope items (its user-configurable how many items load) and experiencing some lag. To try to fix this I was looking at the available events isotope exposes, but is there really only layoutComplete? I was hoping to overlay a progress bar based on, say, layoutStart. Any advice?
