Unsupported Apps

Calibre (E-Book Management Software) has no auto-update capabilities. This app might be capable of providing a solution to that issue? (maybe)

To build the update checking for one specific app, I have to reverse engineer how the software updates itself and then reimplement that. There are a lot of apps that fall under this, like Steam or the Microsoft Office suite.. I thought about what I can do here, but I currently don't see a good solution. The complexity of adding a single app is as big (or bigger) as supporting the entirety of the Mac App Store.

Maybe a plugin structure would work, so that the app (and its code) itself is not blown up unnecessarily. Plugins could be loaded automatically if the app is installed. But that is something for the future :)

There is an app called MacUpdater (https://www.corecode.io/macupdater/) which provides update functionality for all apps including sparkle apps. Maybe you can have a look and try something out.

thanks for mentioning our MacUpdater! FYI, MacUpdater uses 'HomebrewCask' to support automatic updates for Calibre and 3300 other apps. The Calibre 'caskfile' is here: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/homebrew-cask/master/Casks/calibre.rb

I should really look at the hombrew updater more closely. I added it to #9, which is quite ambitious tbh. But hey, we've got time here right? 😉

Latest is a very good alternative to the MacUpdater shareware app. However, it doesn't detect updates for Firefox and for Zoom on my machine.
