Add option to chose which tabs to show
I know many users only care about some of the tabs in the topbar. I personally never use the "Tags" tab and rarely click on the "Users" tab.
In the past, I've used $('#nav-tags').parent().remove(); to remove the Tags tab.
Would you be able to add an option that let's you pick which tabs to show/hide? I think a multi select input would make most sense.
Options:
- Questions
- Jobs (Stack Overflow)
- Tags
- Users
- (Any new tabs that users might want)
This seems like a reasonable option to add. I'll work on it.
The ability to hide individual elements of the top nav has been implemented and will be in the next release.
Hmmm... now that I re-re-read this, I'm not sure if your request included adding "Questions", "Tags", and "Users" to other sites. Adding them has not been implemented (yet) and may, or may not make it into the next release. Was adding them something that you were including in your request?
@makyen To be honest, when I first proposed this idea, I forgot that SO is the only site with the tabs in the top-bar. I was just thinking that it would be nice to have an option to chose which tabs to show for all network sites. I actually think adding an option to remove the huge tab row from the other network sites and adding them to the top-bar is a nice new idea, and is something I would actually use, but that is not what I originally had in mind when I posted this issue.
As for the "Any new tabs that users might want" point, my thought was that once you are adding an option to hide/show tabs, this leaves room to add additional new tab options if so desired, like links to other pages on SO that aren't yet tabs.
