Documentation enhancement: ESP32-S2Fxx is required not ESP32-S2

Open Quas7 opened this issue 1 year ago • 4 comments

I ordered an esp32-s2 without thinking much about it but after not being able to flash the chip at all I transfered another "S2" from a dev board. That fixed the issue for me.

Out of curiostiy I moved my ordered "S2" to the dev board - flashing was not possible. Another one from the ordered batch did not work either. I almost started doubting my soldering skills. But later a colleague hinted that Espressif might have done some "extensions" to their portfolio (see Datasheet). And of course they did: image

The ESP32-S2 has no flash embedded at all and a little correction of the BOM might be a good idea to include the S2F.

I have found that the LM1117MPX_18NOPB is a 1.8V regulator.. Is that the correct regulator? The schematic shows 3.3V forth switch positions..

I used a 3.3V I had at hand with some pin bending. 1.8V does not make much sense for a 3.3V uController.

Would be good to add one or two footprints in parallel to have at least two standard formfactors for the LDO to chose from.

Yeah, I'll change that out and see what else is awkward with it
