Motor just vibrating when choosing UART mode

I have several SERVO42Cs but one seems to to be defect: when choosing UART mode, the stepper starts vibrating at 832 Hz and gets hot. It makes no difference, if a serial cable is pluged in or not. Nor does any change of the other settings change anything (set_0, baut rate, address, etc.). Calibration by the way works fine. One strange thing let me think of a software problem: The address menue showds occasionally numbers (eg. "1042") instead of HEX codes "0xe7". Is there a way to do a factory reset?
