[feature]: Sort States independent from category
Is there an existing issue for this?
- [X] I have searched the existing issues
Summary
For now States are always sorted first based on groups (from left to right: Backlog, Unstarted, Started, Completed, Cancelled), with no option to change sort of these groups (e.g. put Unstarted before Backlog).
Why should this be worked on?
It would be great to have the possibility to sort states independent of the groups (keeping groups as a secondary property).
@machiav3lli, we've given this considerable thought, and the decision was intentional. Could you share your use-case for wanting to sort state groups? This information will help us gain better clarity on how to enhance the user experience.
Also, we're planning to introduce custom state groups and enable sorting, but this is still a long way off. Your use-case could help speed-up this.
Thanks for the fast response @vihar . Here's some general info on how I handle project structure on Plane:
- For one workspace (one real-world project) I have on Plane two projects:
- For the full product, including the product log with mainly milestones (mainly used as a project-plan-view or by product owner to communicate things)
- For the sprints, which includes tasks etc.. (where the real work happens)
- The 2. has the states: Suggestion, Backlog, In-Work, Completed and Archive
- We do 1-week sprints with one main "sprint change" meeting (review, planing, refine & retrospective)
- Tasks are usually suggested by teamers throughout the sprint (mainly building upon their current work), and some others by the scrum master
- In the sprint planing, fitting tasks are then taken from Suggestion and gets through the pipeline (hopefully in one or two sprints): Suggestion → Backlog → In-Work → Completed
- Therefore there was the wish from the teamers, that states should be sorted along our flow, avoiding any discrepancy with the mental model.
It's surely something that you'd mostly only hear from some UX-geeks
