[feature]: Gitea Integration

Open Quadrubo opened this issue 2 years ago • 14 comments

Is there an existing issue for this?

  • [X] I have searched the existing issues

Summary

Simillarly to #408, an integration with Gitea for syncing Issues would be nice.

Why should this be worked on?

Would allow gitea users to sync their issues.

Would really love to see this! Gitea (or Forgejo) are really nice light-weight options for self-hosting / managing git repositories (compared to say GitLab), but the task management / project management features are definitely pretty bare-bones. Pairing self-hosted Gitea with Plane would be a great setup.

I would totally agree with r0bbie. As i was searching on an alternative to the gitea issues because of its minimal design i stumbled across this issue. I would appreciate this feature in the near future! Best regards!

A strong Plane + Gitea integration would be the perfect open source killer for JIRA + Bitbucket. Many enterprise will adopt Plane as some of them are already using Gitea, but at the moment the benefits of Atlassian integrations between JIRA and Bitbucket are too good to consider Plane as a serious alternative. Gitea offers everything and more than Bitbucket, Plane does the same with JIRA,... together they would be the perfect open source alternative.

From within a Plane issue we should be able to have a "Development" section with a resume of the number of PR and commits associated to that Plane issue (anything using that Plane issue ID in the commit message).

It should be possible to see more details on a pop up or some other contextual way which would display a resume of the most relevant details of any Gitea commit/PR (commit message, owners, dates...) avoiding the need to navigate away from Plane into Gitea to know more, unless you really need to inspect history, code or any further information not displayed on that Plane popup.

I 'd also love to see a Plane + Gitea / Forgejo integration. Plane this way, would solve many of my problems.

Gitea Integration would definitely be killer for environments that are self-hosted due to information governance and/or data security requirements.

FYI I succeeded an integration PoC between Gitea & Plane with n8n, it worked like a charm. My scripts has been deleted since then, but I focused on tickets updates when a PR is created or updated when referencing a Plane ticket

This would be an amazing integration for the open source community!

To those who are looking for a temporary solution, I have posted my workaround here

Hope it helps.

@Quadrubo - I recently stumbled upon something: https://github.com/GeekWorkCode/go-plane Never tried or tested, but just thought it might help you or anyone else ( I am personally using the not so elegant n8n solution )

Any updates on the Forgejo/Gitea integration ?

srvstrnull avatar Oct 06 '25 10:10 srvstrnull

Forgejo/Gitea are the FOSS alternative to Gitlab. Without an integration Plane has no benefit for development teams, but creates way more overhead and kills the productivity.

Please think about providing an integration!
