[idea] Use Analytics trigger for "member events"

Open jhuleatt opened this issue 4 years ago • 1 comments

Just a thought as I was trying this out: since "member events" seem very analytics-y, consider using a Google Analytics trigger instead of a Firestore document to sync these events with Mailchimp.

The downside of this is that the developer would have to be using Google Analytics for their analytics, which may be too big of an assumption to make. Interested to hear your thoughts though!

@jhuleatt That's a great suggestion! We could consider integrating Google Analytics in conjunction with Mailchimp member events as a future feature enhancement. The reason we cannot rely solely on Google Analytics is because member events in Mailchimp serve a higher purpose than simple analytics, instead they can actually invoke a series of subsequent automated workflows when triggered ie sending email campaigns, etc. So while we cannot exclusively rely on Google Analytics, in theory there is nothing preventing us from logging the event in both platforms.
