There are a lot of donation systems, some also support cryptocurrency.
There are also some that allow to put money on a specific issue like this: https://issuehunt.io/ There may be people that may not want to send money in general, but may send a lot of money to solve a specific issue that they had with this software.
Yes, this all is correct. There are a lot of ways to give money around. Traditional ways like bank account, paypal or more "specific" one like patreon, issuehunt or similar pages. Also, the question has to be raised, supporting the project or specific people? I have no good answer to any of these "questions" but decided for github-Sponsr for now. That is why I accepted the answer :)
