entire drive locks when installing fortnite
it's literally that, i made sure that i had 5G more than required and even then it locks so it can't be me reaching the limit
@tipsyGnostalgik the issue is with winbtrfs itself. When downloading or transferring large files it will lock up the system or cause it to crash. I wouldn't know how to solve it or all the technical terms but it kinda seems like it loses connection to the drive which then locks up the system. Some people have mentioned that it usually happens around 8 gigs but for me it's a bit random. It happened with 10 gigs and other times it's happened with 40 gigs before crashing.
Not sure if you can pause the download after 10 gigs then resume the download after a while or after a reboot. I will try this out myself in the next couple of days and let you know if this works like workaround in the meantime.
OK so unfortunately I have not been able to get this to work properly. One workaround is to try and download everything through bazzite. For epic games, gog, and amazon you can use heroic games launcher. Everything else that are not windows store apps you can try to use lutris. Then when in windows just point to the place where the game is installed inside of the btrfs drive. The main issue is that if a game loads large files or to many smaller files at once it will crash winbtrfs making the drive inaccessible as well as locking up your system.
The other workaround is using ChatGPT to help you setup a virtualbox VM that will mount the hidden btrfs drive/partition so that you can make a samba share. Then mount the samba share as a network drive to windows. Then inside of that network drive make a .vhdx so you then mount that to install games that only work on windows. The only problem with this is that if you don't unmount the Vhdx, then unmount the samba network share, then unmount the btrfs drive/parition from the vm, and finalky shutdown the VM. You can potentially lock up the drive as well. Again you can probably use chatgpt so that it can make a script that automatically does all this whenever you turn on your windows partition and shut it down. I am still trying this method out but so far it has been working better than winbtrfs but its still not perfect.
I also tried doing the same process with WSL but the samba share does not work properly under WSL hence the need to use a full on VM.

I'm genuinely confused as to why this is an issue that more than one person experienced 😭 and i'm even more confused that I experience it too
