Needed some helper methods from #9172, so rebased this branch onto that branch for now. Once #9172 is merged, I will rebase onto master again

#9490, a duplicate issue of #9138 got closed by https://github.com/magefree/mage/commit/48df6902e133f5bb896e3385729e440b69dce856.

Are there changes in this PR that still need to be merged in?
