Rainbow Boot

After setting everything up and copying the needed firmware, config, and kernel (from template_sdl) to my SD card, I get stuck on the rainbow boot screen. I tried the abbaye release archive as well. This gives me a four colored squares boot screen.

Using a SanDisk 16G card that I've used with this Pi before.

Ideas?

The code is very old and should run only on Raspberry Pi 1 models (those with a single core CPU).
