Cant't create Twitter Access token
Just did a fresh install of ubuntu 12.10 and hotot (official ubuntu build). when i try to create a new twitter account, i only get a blank page and hotot does absolutely nothing. theres not output on the terminal, it just sits there and waits.
is there anything i can do to provide more information?
far from an expert, but I'll try to help.
I'm assuming you're a new user, so I hope I'm not offending when I'm asking how did you try to create a new twitter account? if I remember correctly you first need to click the plus sign, then fill in your user name and press the big circle with an arrow in it. it then asks you to create a token.
if that's not it, try and post a screen shot. "blank page" doesn't say much.
no mwgkdm, i'm not a new user. in fact, i use linux for about 12 years as main os and hotot for at least 1 year. i know how to add a account to hotot, cause i did that successfully for half a dozen times.
"blank page" says indeed much, cause it is exactly what i get: a blank/white window/page that does absolutely nothing.
well, I said I hope I'm not being offensive
I'm facing exactly the same issue, Ubuntu 12.10 too…
Here's what Hotot is saying: [01:39:42][jikan@tty17 ~]$ hotot [init] overlay_variables() [init] on_load_finish() [init] on_load_finish() -> ext.load_builtin_exts(); [Load Extension] ./ext/org.hotot.cfw/entry.js [Load Extension] ./ext/org.hotot.gmap/entry.js [Load Extension] ./ext/org.hotot.sample/entry.js [Load Extension] ./ext/org.hotot.shorturl/entry.js [Load Extension] ./ext/org.hotot.translate/entry.js [Load Extension] ./ext/org.hotot.stat/entry.js [Load Extension] ./ext/org.hotot.appmask/entry.js [init] on_load_finish() -> ext.load_exts(); [init] on_load_finish() -> ext.init_exts(); [Init Extension] Hotot Content Firewall [Init Extension] Hotot GMap [Init Extension] Sample [Init Extension] Hotot Short URL [Init Extension] Hotot Translate [Init Extension] Hotot User Stat [Init Extension] AppMask [init] on_load_finish() -> push settings [init] on_load_finish() -> i18n.init() [i18n] Use locale: fr [init] on_load_finish() -> init_ui() [init] init_dialogs() [init] done! [Req] {"type":"GET","url":"https://api.twitter.com/oauth/request_token?oauth_consumer_key=SCEdx4ZEOO68QDCTC7FFUQ&oauth_nonce=04005864425562322&oauth_signature=prd9MuNX5yPUT%2Bu%2BWbXJS24NhPk%3D&oauth_signature_method=HMAC-SHA1&oauth_timestamp=1361234397&oauth_version=1.0","data":{}}
And then, it hangs, Hotot window is full grey but if I get my mouse over the place where the connect circle would be if I could see it, it's actually still there and active: I can clik it even if I don't actually see it, but it just verbose the same Req url (except oauth_nonce and signature) while doing nothing else… Pretty annoying :(
Hum… Solved by installing Hotot's version from the official Hotot PPA, but this issue still exists…
same issue on ubuntu 12.10. blank screen after no access token message. verbose shows the same output. going to try ppa.
same issue on ubuntu 12.10. blank screen after no access token message.
Same issue here. I did notice that hotot uses Twitter's API version 1.
Same issue on Linux Mint 14 (Nadia) with ubuntu deb package. I test with ppa:hotot-team and it works.
i'm going to suggest closing this. it's obvious that it's a specific hotot verison that ubuntu is using. best bet is to file something against ubuntu asking that it be fixed/updated.
I think you can closing this. We can open a request for updating Ubuntu version.
Guys, I've just installed latest ubuntu-gnome (13.04) and installed hotot via ppa. Faced same issue. Building from source works fine.
Not nice, but as a workaround, you can copy the settings from an existing hotot installation (~/.config/hotot).
I faced the same issue after installing it with synaptic in Mint 15 (Cinnamon). I solved it by installing the QT wrapper (hotot-qt), the GTK+ being the one installed by default.
And still the same here on 13.04. Starting for the first time, I ended up with a blank page, as reported above. Installing the qt version, I can enter the token. Clicking the round button, I can see... still the start screen. No hint, no error message, nothing. I hate these modern "Do not annoy me with details" UIs :(
At work: startet with hotot-qt - blank screen without any interaction. Installed gotot-gtk, so I could enter my profile name. Pressed the round button - crash (although startet at the command prompt, could not stop it by Ctrl-C). But then I can start again hotot-qt, and hurray, fonud my twitter account on the screen. Pressing the round button after entering my PIN... still the start screen. Probably the description of hotot should be changed into "Hotot - the journey to Twitter. A new adventure"

@Slesa, I think that's not so dramatical. It's clear an Ubuntu-bindings related. Maybe something on the .deb build process. No RPM issue, no sources issue. Build process is quite simple too. Not a major bug, not a description-change cause.
I had the same problem with 12.10 but I found a way to get the token (I still can) but I don know where to fill in the numbers...
for everyone: just try to find a 'button click mouse' while going over the white screen, you'll find (when you get that and wait for the note showing up) "cancel" "OK" and the "Get API......" The only problem is that I don'
don't know in which "Hidden" box I need to fill it in, I did that before and it worked but I've changed my twittername and need to do that again now...
I'm sorry for grammer mistakes and if it sounds really strange, but really.. give it a try
