Unresponsiveness/High CPU load when composing or resizing.

Open ghost opened this issue 13 years ago • 9 comments

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Click Compose, change view or click menu-icon top left corner
  2. Start typing or resize window

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

  • Expected responsiveness: near-instant.
  • Actual responsiveness: multiple seconds between key-press or mouse-clicks and results on screen.

If Hotot-compose is open, or when window is being resized, CPU-load goes above 90%, maxing out CPU.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system and what Desktop Environment?

  • Hotot: Hotot 0.9.7.37 (Ada)
  • OS: Crunchbang Linux, based on Debian
  • Window Manager: Openbox 3.5
  • WebKit: libwebkit-1.0-2
  • GTK: libgtk2.0-0
  • PyWebKitGtk: 1.1.7-1+b1

Please provide any additional information below.

  • Intel Atom N270 (1.6Ghz), 2GB ram (1.6GB free), SSD, 2GB swap (0% used).
  • Related to Issues 310, 447 and maybe 451, back at googlecode?
  • Attached 2 screenshots of "top", one where hotot is not focused, and one where it is, to show difference in CPU-load.

Had numerous updates today:

python version: 2.6.6-3+squeeze6 python-support version: 1.0.10 libgtk2.0 version: 2.20.1-2 libwebkit-1.0-2 version: 1.2.7-0+squeeze2 PyWebKitGtk (python-webkit) version: 1.1.7-1+b1 hotot version: 2:0.9.7~git-1374-g70df9a6-0ubuntu0ppa1~maverick1

Issue persists, although it does seems that that the menu (button left top-corner) and the resizing has become a bit better :)

How about Chrome version?

After upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04 beta2 all become OK on the same laptop. Using Hotot as default twitter client for two days already - no lags. Will try Chrome wersion on another Ubuntu 10.04, where the bug was also.

Upd: in Chromium version everything is OK, while at the same time on the same laptop "independent" version is unresponsive. This is about Ubuntu 10.04.

I've had similar experiences. The desktop app is very slow on older versions of Ubuntu, but it's fine on 11.10.

Installed hotot on my desktop as well, Mint 12, Gnome3, 6GB Ram, Quad-core PhenomII 3Ghz, and it purs like a kitten when composing, 0,5% CPU used when idling, 10-12% when typing.

Heartbeat - this issue doesn't seem to be occurring for me at all as of recent versions. Should this issue be closed?
