Copy/Paste don't work when assigned to Copy and Paste keys

I've assigned Copy and Paste to the Copy (XF86Copy) and Paste (XF86Paste) keys.

The preferences shortcuts editor recognises these keypresses correctly.

In the terminal however, it does not respond to them. I've tried copying from the terminal to elsewhere, and from elsewhere to the terminal, to confirm that neither copy nor paste are working as expected.
