Multi-layer NetCDF not opening as mesh layer

I'm trying to load this 12-layer NetCDF I have created in R as mesh layer in QGIS: trends.zip

Unfortunately the load fails with the following message: "INVALID DATA SOURCE" ... it is not a valid or recognised data source.

If I load the file as raster, it works.

I'm using QGIS 3.10. Many thanks for your help!

Currently we do not support plain CF-conventions data (e.g. set of points not connected topologically to mesh, with data defined on points). But there is plan to support ( e.g. the same problem is for example for this data: https://github.com/lutraconsulting/MDAL/issues/130)

generally we should support 2d meshes in UGRID convention out of the box.
