Git graph is not displayed

Open askraskr opened this issue 3 months ago • 10 comments

I installed serie with cargo install --locked serie, but the graph on the left side of the terminal is never displayed.

Here's how it looks.

What can I do to solve this?

OS: Ubuntu 24.04

P.S. This happens in all terminal emulators.

You say "all" terminal emulators, but there are hundreds. Please name an actual one or two you are testing with so we can give specifics about that one. Also are you running tmux or any other multiplexer?

Xfce terminal, terminator, guake, konsole

Same with me with Alacritty. I was beginning to believe it's not supported too. Is that true?

Alacritty is not supported, as it's image support is sixel based. Terminator (as I last remember it from using it a couple decades ago) doesn't have any image support at all. I don't know anything about XFCE terminal or guake. If they have iterm or kitty image support you should be able to manually specify which protocol to use.

As for Konsole, it does support kitty image protocol, so serie -p kitty will work there. I proposed this to be auto detected so you didn't have to specify the protocol (see #24) but the PR was rejected because I didn't supply a video of it working (apparently screen-shots and written confirmation are not convincing enough).

This is happening to me as well. I'm running tmux inside of kitty.

[2025-10-03 13:07:21]» kitty --version
kitty 0.32.2 created by Kovid Goyal
[2025-10-03 13:07:57]» tmux -V
tmux 3.4

I will upgrade to the latest kitty to re-confirm.

update: No, I'm afraid the problem persists, even in the latest kitty:

Real need use serie in tmux with kitty terminal. Could you please let me know that serie is not working in tmux? How is this issue resolved, is there any progress? Thanks.

I can confirm that the git graph displays correctly in both WezTerm and iTerm2, but not in tmux.

Also doesn't work in Terminal.app on macOS Tahoe 26.1. Works fine in Ghostty (nightly build) on macOS, though.

Also, it does not work with Windows Terminal, as well as with the zed editor terminal.
