Audio stopped working with plugin installed

Recently the plugin has started to cause audio problems in browsers (I have tested several chromium based ones). Simply on some sites/videos the sound stops working when the plugin is installed, and only works again if you uninstall the plugin. I have been using it for years and this is the first time this has happened.
