I see that there is a serial code in luasocket. Is that for reading/writing from/to a serial port by any chance? Any example on how to use it?

Contributions welcome ... Probably best as LDoc comments in the code, but even if you typed up documentation in an issue report somebody else may be able to help integrate it into actual documentation.
