Loads fine for me, the log just says your json is somehow invalid, run your config file through a [json validator](https://jsonlint.com/) to make sure it's valid.

Are you sure you are using the 1.8 and not the 1.7.10 version?

I'm not sure why you would have to make your own Version of Hardcore Darkness for this, isn't gloom just "take damage when below a certain light level" ? Couldn't...

Do Water Breathing Potions & Night Vision potions not work properly? Or do you just not want to use them?

Water Breathing removes the underwater fog. With both active i can see perfectly fine underwater.

Well you can probably kill it using the /kill command. It's an entity which appears when players die but it's meant to vanish when the player respawns.

I mean really the thing next to absolute darkness is pretty much lowest gamma.
