Trouble counting daily words when deleting from the end of large files?

I've got a 40,000 word file I'm working with. I was sure it was counting words added and deleted in this file to begin with, when I was working at the top of the file. Over time I have moved through the document, and I am now editing material at the end of it.

Words in the file is being calculated fine. I can delete a chunk and that'll change.

Words deleted are not always being taken from the count of daily words however. I might type a full sentence before that will move, and it will miss some words. I might delete a full paragraph and it won't count - this is more common.

This works fine in the smaller file. I can delete from the big file - no word count change - and paste into the smaller file - boom, extra words! Delete from the smaller file, those extra words disappear.

So it's a bit disingenious for me to use this as a proper counter of my daily words at the moment.

Not sure if the fact I have 40+ headings and other plugins is messing with this. Will need to test it further with just this plugin in a sandbox vault.
