Incorrect word count from cut/pasting between documents?
Has anyone else experienced the daily statistics word count going up higher than it should while copying and pasting between documents?
There appears to be a bug in copy pasting text between notes. The word count does not seem to consistently go down from a cut, though it typically goes up with a paste. Despite only writing a few hundred words today, I have pasted several hundred more, and so my word count for 'today' is 500 higher than actuality.
This is extremely difficult to reproduce accurately, and I'll update this post or add a comment once I'm able to actually see it happen with any particularly consistent pattern.
I think I experienced it with Daily Stats as well, though that had the problem of 'locking' files in Dropbox while I was working so they couldn't be uploaded. I wonder if that .obsidian\vault-stats.json file being continually updated in Dropbox is related to the issue.
Sorry this will be a brief reply. Thank you for raising this. It is possible the the daily count is inaccurate, I will be looking into this. The issue is that the daily words do not go into the negatives and if you write 1000 words and then delete a 10000 words file or cut word, should that count against your total or not? So I will be troubleshooting this, let me know what you think.
Hmm, is a curious question. I would be inclined to follow it as Scrivener does, and to say that if you delete 10000 words, then your words should go into the negative. Perhaps there could be a reset button in the stats so that if someone is like "NOOO IMMA MINUS WAAAH" or other shenanigans have happened, they can click the button to get back to 0, being fully capable of writing down their own word count before deleting a giant file of words.
How about Written words <result> / <total count>
with <total count>
showing also the deleted words? I personally would like to see this information.
