I'm having exactly the same issue. Tempted to recreate the library (which I have locally) and fork the project for now.

npm ERR! EPROTO: protocol error, symlink '../mkdirp/bin/cmd.js' -> '/vagrant/node_modules/.bin/mkdirp'

This doesn't sound like an issue with this repository?
