It could even be a more secure option, as more things can be encrypted at rest without as much development overhead.

Usually flatpaks can use the keyring if they desire they just need an extra perm I usually notice session bus access to org.freedesktop.Secrets in apps that use the keyring

I changed my mind on this over time, this would probably be a considerable amount of work to make it useful, you're safer encrypting your drive and adopting proper sandboxing...

There is also Crowdin which I see a lot of extensions using, I'm not sure I've seen any extensions using Weblate, it is proprietary however
