You're right, it's definitely detecting something.
@solomonrb that's just present before the js is loaded. It's also definitely not ublock because it works in Firefox with ublock.
You'll see it if you disable caching and throttle the connection to something like 2G/3G (https://firefox-source-docs.mozilla.org/devtools-user/network_monitor/throttling/index.html).

I think the player should just remember (including after app restarts) the last speed that it was set to instead of a default which unnecessarily complicates things.
