Latest blender exporter (2.64) is not exporting image names

I'm using Blender 2.71.

This is how the model is setup in Blender: http://i.imgur.com/3jjGM2U.png

When I export it using "image" for the material export option and try to load in the file I get an empty string for the material name. The way I'm importing the model is not the problem since the image names for mrfixit.iqm load fine.

I'd need a test blend file to work with that induces the problem to properly investigate this.
