Feature request: adjustable color of squares

First of all: thanks for creating and sharing such an extensive library... it shines! I've yet to find a bug, it seems very solid and robust so far. I have a feature request: could you extend the library so that you can also color the squares. See attachment for an example of what I mean. Thanks for your consideration. qr
